Module 5 - Defending from various knife attacksTo a trained professional martial artist, a weapon is an extension of his/her arm. Often attackers are untrained at handling the weapon they are using. This makes them unpredictable and all the more dangerous in their attack. If you are unable to read an attacker’s body language, you will be unable to pre-judge an oncoming strike. At the same time, if your attacker is unsure of which part of your body to strike, it is likely they will just “lash out wildly”. Throughout this entire situation, you must not lose sight of the weapon that is being used by the attacker. Gaining control of the arm carrying the weapon is vital, especially if the weapon is a knife.
